Not entirely unexpected but still pretty sad today the Apache Software Foundation resigned in protest from the Java SE/EE Executive Committee.

I had held out hopes that Oracle would reverse their mindset but that is not to happen.

Does this mean that Java is to become for Oracle like .NET is for Microsoft? Essentially, yes, the fact that key technologies are not available to be freely used means that if a Java based product becomes popular then the Oracle lawyers will likely come knocking for their "fair share." However, while that is a fear I still hope it can be resolved. After all open source implementations of Java have helped it become one of the most widely used and most powerful languages available and it seems that Oracle is throwing all that support away.

Maybe it is time to become a pure Python based shop.
