I ended up in a position where I could (well not really but lets pretend) afford to buy a Wii. So I did.

I got the Wii, 2 extra controllers, Wii Play (which comes with a controller too), 2 Nunchucks, 2 N64/NES controllers and a small stack of games (including Zelda TWP).

I decided to surprise my wife (well she had said NO last time I asked if I could use a little money to buy the little computer). So we had some friends coming over for "tea" Friday evening. I volunteered to clean the living room and went at it with a gusto. My wife was satisfied and went on to prep baby boy, kitchen and snacks. I cleaned dusted and organized the entire TV entertainment area (making room for the Wii and stuff). Then I hooked the thing up (which took about 10 minutes not including the cleaning time).

When she came out it was small enough she didn't pick up on what I had done until the safety net of company had arrived. So instead of a lecture with pack it up and take it back orders she let it ride for later with only a small significant look in my direction.

Honestly the dang little thing was amazing amounts of fun. It seriously went just like the commercials. We all built Miis (your Wii Avatar) laughing and kibitzing away. Then we played Wii sports to laughter and merriment, everyone got involved (which is why I made sure to have 4 controllers).

The fact is we had to kick our friends out at ~1 AM because we had to go to my parents house the next day.

Shock of shocks Saturday when we got back (very LATE) my wife actually asked me to play bowling with her before we went to bed! Then Sunday when we got up we played baseball, bowling and some tennis before and after breakfast at HER request.

Instead of movies Sunday evening my wife and I watched and laughed with my daughter as she played Zelda Twilight Princess. I never thought a video console could pull in the whole family like that.

It is an experience we want to have again so this week (at my wife's request) we are having more friends over Friday again.

Will this last? Maybe, maybe not. But I never got the "you spent how much! Take it back!" talk I was expecting.

Oh and racing cows is amazingly popular.
